SCOT Dunn, managing director of Appleton Special Dream Weekend, said he and his team are not overly concerned about being affected by the hurricane season.

“Negril traditionally has rainfall almost every day in early August and it has never had any adverse effect on any of our 10 parties,” Dunn told the Jamaica Observer.

He was responding to a recent warning by Senior Meteorologist Lawrence Brown, who predicted an active hurricane season.

That period began June 1 and ends November 30.

Brown urged promoters to take the necessary precautions when planning their events.

“I know that as Jamaicans we are fun loving and party-going people, but the bottom-line is the climate is changing and we are in a season where we can expect significant tropical cyclone of a magnitude that can be very hazardous to us in general,” he said.

Dunn stated that he and his team will be guided by bulletins from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management to ensure the safety of patrons.

The Dream Weekend series is scheduled for August 5-9. Confirmed acts include Machel Montano, Jah Cure, Lady Saw, Busy Signal, Chris Martin, Ding Dong, Dexta Daps and Chi Ching Ching.
