It's ridiculous how excellent this mod is; I refuse to play any renpy game without it. So I'm not just repeating what others say, my favorite features are:
To level up your game even more, you can use this tool to modify the rpy scripts directly. But wait, you say, it's all rpa and rpc files so I can't modify them! But just use "rpa extract" to turn rpa->rpc, and "un.rpyc" to turn rpc->rpy and boom, fully editable game. Now you can search for those variables you've identified, see how they're used, and even modify them. This is great for fixing broken games that aren't supported anymore. (Both those tools are googlable btw; with URM, these for me are the essentials of casual renpy game hackery.)
In conclusion I can't believe URM is free and the tool is absolutely spectacular. Give it a try. My only criticism is that the auto-update feature is pretty flaky, but it's easy to update yourself by just downloading new version, and I appreciate the desire to add new, difficult features.
- Ability to see when there is a branching path + the ability to see WHY (for example, a stat being below a certain amount), make in-line modification to those variables, and even override the logic by choosing a path that you're not qualified for (so, for example, you can see a scene for a route you're not actually on).
- Ability to search for variables by name or value -- many of these games are so simple that you can just tweak values directly, like "affection" or whatever
- Text replacement. Suit your preference, assuage your annoyance, satisfy your kink by making a universal text replacement.
- Low-key favorite: sometimes it's hard to tell what variables are changing and how to modify the game. But not with URM. Go to the screen before the change, then in URM, create a "snapshot"; a copy of every variable value in the game. Then, on the next screen, make your decision or do whatever thing is modifying important variables. Lastly, in URM, go to your snapshot and "Show changes" -- this will show every variable that changed since the last snapshot. Whether you're writing your own custom game mod or just trying to impose your will on the game, this feature is ridiculously valuable.
- Honorable mention: force quick menu to be visible.
